Environmental Executive Moves: Alcoa, Ecology and Environment, EPRI, ABS

Alcoa Mike BarriereHere’s the latest news on hirings, promotions and departures among environmental leaders.

Alcoa: The producer of primary and fabricated aluminum has promoted Mike Barriere (pictured) to executive vice president, human resources and environment, health and safety (EHS). Barrier previously was Alcoa’s vice president, human resources. The company also promoted Kevin McKnight, director, EHS and sustainability, to the post of chief sustainability officer and vice president of EHS, effective Sept. 1. McKnight succeeds Kevin Anton who plans to retire at year-end.

Ecology and Environment: The global environmental management firm has terminated its China subsidiary manager, Volker Neumaier, and appointed Gerald Strobel, former executive vice president, to CEO. President Kevin Neumaier will initially preside over domestic US operations. Additionally, Frank Silvestro, executive vice president, will serve as chairman of the board of directors. The company says the management changes are intended to “enhance management performance and improve profitability.”

Electric Power Research Institute: The research and development nonprofit research has appointed Anda A. Ray as vice president, environment and chief sustainability officer, effective Sept. 9. Ray comes to EPRI from the Tennessee Valley Authority where she most recently served as senior vice president of engineering, environment and support services.

ABS: The global maritime classification services provider has formed a Global Gas Solutions team to support its clients’ liquid natural gas and liquefied petroleum gas projects. Patrick Janssens will lead the organization as vice president for Global Gas Solutions. Janssens is currently the ABS vice president for LNG. Roy Bleiberg, currently director of engineering for ABS Americas, will assume the new role of director of US gas development. Kurt Larsen will assume the new role of director of US gas operations and performance. Larsen currently serves as assistant chief surveyor within the corporate classification department.

Electronic Recyclers International: The electronic waste recycler has named Kevin J. Martin, former chairman of the Federal Communications Commission, to its executive board of directors. Martin is also a partner and co-chair of Patton Boggs’ technology and communications practice.
