Standards & Compliance Briefing: Site Assessments, Climate Bonds, Perdue

The EPA issued notice that it plans to endorse ASTM International’s updated Standard Practice for Environmental Site Assessments: Phase I Environmental Site Assessment Process, through a final rule amending 40 C.F.R. Part 312. A comment period ends September 16, and if there are no negative comments the rule will go into effect on November 13, Mondaq reports.

A Climate Bond Standard working group has published criteria for solar assets. The criteria specifies the level of non-solar fuel back-up or hybridization allowed for solar projects at 15 percent. The criteria are subject to a 30 days of consultation, and criteria for manufacturers in the solar supply chain will follow this fall.

Perdue Farms has received Platinum LEED certification for the renovation of its 94,000 sq ft corporate headquarters in Salisbury, Md. The project is expected to cut water use 42.3 percent through low-flow plumbing fixtures, and up to 40 percent of the building’s energy demand is met by its solar array.

The administration building at Norfolk Southern‘s Birmingham Regional Intermodal Facility at McCalla, Ala., has been LEED certified. The facility uses low-emission cranes and hostler tractors, and features advanced gate and terminal automation technology that shortens wait time for trucks entering the terminal, improving both air quality and driver productivity, Norfolk Southern says.

Five Chinese flooring manufacturers – ChinaFloors, Taizhou Huali, Eletile, DeZign North America and Lamett – received FloorScore indoor air quality certification from SCS Global Services for their luxury vinyl tile products. By meeting FloorScore’s VOC criteria, these products demonstrate compliance with the VOC emissions criteria of LEED, CHPS, Green Guide for Health Care, and other green building rating systems, SCS says.

Midwest Industrial Supply’s EnviroKleen has been certified as meeting Bureau de Normalisation de Quebec standard 2410-300, Products Used as Dust Control Agents for Non-Asphalted Roads and Other Similar Surfaces. The certification shows conformance with BNQ standards for critical contaminants, degradation, mobility, bio-concentration, aquatic toxicity, soil toxicity, and geno-toxicity.

Web host Netcetera has achieved ISO 14001 environmental management system certification. The recognition is based on the company’s environmental performance at its Isle of Man, UK data center and office operations.
