evoquaA couple major acquisitions have been announced in the past two days. Sustainability services provider Anthesis Group is moving into the energy and carbon management market with the acquisition of Sustain and Evoqua Water Technologies has reached a deal to purchase industrial wastewater services provider Environmental Treatment Systems.

Terms of the purchases were not disclosed.

Sustain is a UK energy and carbon management company that designs and manages energy efficiency projects for the public and private sector.

Anthesis, which provides environmental management and sustainability products and services, has been on a buying spree since it was formed three years ago. Its purchase of Sustain marks the company’s tenth acquisition; it on-the-ground presence now extends to the UK, Central Europe, USA, Asia and the Middle East.

Stuart McLachlan, CEO of Anthesis Group, said the acquisition will boost the company’s products and services in the energy efficiency market, “an area where we are seeing particular growth. We are now able to support our clients in the end-to-end design and implementation of energy and carbon management projects.”

Yesterday Evoqua announced it had signed an agreement to acquire Acworth, Georgia-based Environmental Treatment Systems, a provider of engineered solutions to the industrial wastewater market.

Environmental Treatment Systems’ industrial offerings serve the food processing, pulp and paper, poultry and meat processing, chemical, beverage, laundry, and textile industries. Their clients range from end users to consulting engineering firms, to equipment reps and contractors.

Environmental Treatment Systems will join Evoqua’s Industrial Projects and Services division, supporting the wastewater needs for its heavy, light and institutional customers serving a variety of markets. As part of the acquisition, Evoqua’s Industrial Projects and Services division will form an organic wastewater center of excellence with Environmental Treatment Systems to serve Evoqua’s industrial customers across its portfolio.

Evoqua says it serves about 90 percent of the Fortune 500 with its water treatment services in addition to about 70 percent of municipalities in the US.

Environmental Treatment Systems’ products and servies include dissolved air flotation (DAF), wastewater systems, biological treatment, services and controls. DAF systems are commonly used to remove oils and greases as well as suspended solids to meet a variety of treatment goals including product recovery and reuse pretreatment to meet sewer discharge limits, pretreatment to reduce loading on downstream biological treatment system, treatment of biological treatment effluent and thickening of biosolids.

Over the summer Evoqua and its recently acquired Neptune Benson business bought VAF Filtration Systems, a screen filtration manufacturer based in Arvada, Colorado.
