Environmental Executive Moves: A123, Camfil, AF&PA, UL, Progressive Waste Solutions

A123 Systems: The electric car battery maker that was purchased in bankruptcy in January by China’s largest auto parts maker Wanxiang Group has promoted Jason Forcier to chief executive officer, Reuters reports. Forcier previously led A123’s auto division.

Camfil Air Pollution Control: The air filtration company says its parent company, Camfil, has appointed Magnus Yngen president and CEO. Yngen has been a member of the Camfil board for the last year. He succeeds Alan O’Connell, who held the post for the past 12 years.

American Forest & Paper Association: The trade association has named Linda Tsang (pictured) as its director, climate and air quality. She comes to AF&PA from a Washington, DC-based environmental law firm.

Underwriters Laboratories: The research and standards company has appointed Maria Iafano as director, UL standards – Canada. Prior to joining UL, she served as director, legislative policy and government affairs for the Ontario Electrical Safety Authority.

Progressive Waste Solutions: The waste management company has announced several changes to its organizational structure and senior management team. Tom Brown, senior vice president and chief operating officer, US operations, has provided notice of his retirement effective Nov. 30. William (Bill) Hulligan, president and chief operating officer, and Joseph Quarin, vice chairman and chief executive officer, will assume direct responsibility for the US operations until Jan. 1, 2014. Dan Pio, previously vice president and chief operating officer, Canada, has been appointed to the newly created position of executive vice president, strategy and business development. Kevin Walbridge, VP, Canadian operations, will assume responsibility for the Canadian region, effective immediately. Beginning in January 2014, Walbridge’s role will expand and he will assume the role of executive vice president and chief operating officer for the company’s consolidated US and Canadian operations. Hulligan will retire from his role as president and chief operating officer and become a senior advisor to Quarin and the company effective Jan. 1, 2014. Quarin will assume the president’s role and become president and chief executive officer effective Jan. 1, 2014. Ian Kidson continues in his role as chief financial officer, but also becomes executive vice president, effective Jan. 1, 2014.

SmartDrive Systems: The company that helps commercial fleets improve fuel efficiency and reduce collisions has named Michael “Mike” Baker vice president of worldwide sales. Prior to SmartDrive, Baker led sales teams at Navman Wireless, Qualcomm Omnitracs and HighwayMaster.
