The EPA has issued a final, revised regulatory definition of volatile organic compounds, for purposes of preparing state implementation plans to attain the national ambient air quality standards for ozone. This final action adds 2,3,3,3-tetrafluoropropene (also known as HFO-1234yf) to the list of compounds excluded from the regulatory definition of VOCs. This compound makes a negligible contribution to tropospheric ozone formation, the agency says.
The EPA has issued a final rule amending the definition of “heating oil” for the Renewable Fuel Standard program. The definition now includes fuel oil used to generate heat to warm buildings or other facilities where people live, work, recreate, or conduct other activities.
