ASHRAE has debuted an updated standard for energy use in buildings that is up to 50 percent more stringent than the 2004 version. ANSI/ASHRAE/IES Standard 90.1-2013, Energy Standard for Buildings Except Low-Rise Residential Buildings, incorporates 110 addenda, including major changes to requirements for building envelops and lighting. SCS Global Services has updated its online Green Products Guide, a searchable database listing thousands of products certified by SCS under its Environmental Certification Services division, including the BIFMA level, SCS Indoor Advantage and FloorScore standards. The site now features easily accessible certificates, an advanced search tool and search filtering, SCS says.

Produce company Tanimura & Antle has had its greenhouse-grown butter lettuce certified as Pesticide Residue Free by SCS Global Services. The SCS assessment process screens for high-risk pesticides, predicts critical stages in the spraying and harvesting cycle, and tests the final product to ensure that the produce is free of pesticide residues, based on a limit-of-detection standard of 0.01 ppm or less.

Potable water testing laboratory Eurofins Eaton Analytical has achieved ISO 17025 accreditation for both environmental and food testing methodologies in its Monrovia, Calif., laboratory. The certification demonstrates the lab’s capability to produce precise and consistent results down to sub parts per billion levels, which is particularly useful for international businesses to meet global demands, Eurofins says.

Singhania Buildcon Private Limited, a realtor in Raipur, India, has been certified to the ISO 14001 standard for environmental management and ISO 18001 for occupational health and safety. It is the first company in the state of Chhattisgarh to achieve those two standards, the Times of India reports.

Continental Control Systems’ WattNode Revenue Modbus electric energy and power meter has been certified to ANSI C12.1-2008, Code for Electricity Metering, by MET Laboratories. The standard establishes acceptable performance criteria and in-service performance levels for meters used in revenue metering.

The city hall in Corner Brook, Newfoundland, has become the first commercial building in the province of Newfoundland and Labrador to be LEED Silver certified, the Western Star reports. The building features a green roof, geothermal heating system, rainwater collection and low-E windows.
