AEA Investors has signed an agreement to acquire the municipal, industrial and services water and wastewater treatment operations and assets of Siemens Water Technologies for €640 million ($881 million). AEA says the company will continue to focus on municipal and industrial water and wastewater treatment equipment and services.
Clarcor has entered into an agreement to acquire the air filtration business of General Electric’s Power and Water division for about $265 million, subject to contractually agreed adjustments. The business will continue to supply gas turbine air inlet filtration systems and filters to GE under a multi-year supply agreement. The transaction is expected to close by the end of 2013.
The city of Glendale, Ariz., has signed a 10-year contract with Calgon Carbon to provide reactivation services for activated carbon used to treat the city’s drinking water. The value of the contract will depend upon the amount of spent activated carbon that is reactivated annually, which is expected to be about 1.25 million pounds. Glendale chose Calgon Carbon’s granular activated carbon (GAC) rather than replacing chlorine with alternative disinfectants, which produce other potentially harmful byproducts.
The Cadmus Group has been awarded a five-year, $38 million global environmental management support (GEMS) contract by the US Agency for International Development (USAID) to provide global environmental compliance and environmentally sound design and management (ESDM) support. Under GEMS, Cadmus will continue to undertake ESDM and environmental compliance training for USAID staff and implementing partners, environmental impact assessments, forestry and biodiversity assessments, reviews of USAID missions’ environmental compliance processes, environmental compliance document development and review support, and on-demand research and analysis.
Ecolab’s Equipment Care division and Green Turtle Americas have formed an exclusive distribution agreement to provide in-kitchen wastewater treatment products to the US restaurant and food service industry. Through the partnership, Green Turtle’s line of Retroceptor under-sink grease interceptors and Microceptor drain-line coffee ground interceptors will be sold and installed exclusively by Ecolab’s Equipment Care division.
Israeli start-up Applied CleanTech has signed a contract with Dutch water and paper industries to treat wastewater using Applied CleanTech’s Sewage Recycling System, which the company says reduces more than 50 percent of sludge formation, cuts up to 30 percent of wastewater treatment facility operational costs, and significantly increases the wastewater treatment facility capacity. According to the agreement, the SRS will be installed for a test period in early 2014 at Aa en Maas Water Board municipal wastewater treatment facility at Aarle-Rixtel followed by the industrial process water treatment at paper producing company Smurfit Kappa Roermond Papier.
