Biobased Fabric Provides Multi-Metal Protection

BiopadCortec’s biobased sustainable packaging option for corrosion inhibition has been awarded USDA BioPreferred designation.

BioPad is a flexible corrosion-inhibiting device constructed from 100 percent biobased non-woven material, containing 66 percent biobased content. It is designed with Vapor phase Corrosion Inhibitors (VpCI) impregnated throughout the substrate.

The product provides up to two times as much corrosion inhibiting action as conventional VCI foams, Cortec says.

BioPad also contains a high concentration of VpCI in combination with its thin design, resulting in material reduction by up to 94 percent in comparison to similar polyurethane foam emitting devices.

Placing the correct size BioPad into a package will allow metal items to be protected while leaving them ready for use. The company says no degreasing or coating removal is required; just remove the item from the package and put to use.

The product protects ferrous and non-ferrous metals as well as alloys such as: galvanized and carbon steels, copper, brass, aluminum, zinc, solder and silver. It is free of nitrites and amines, and contains no isocyanates, the company says.

BioPad conforms to NACE Standard TM0-2008 and RP0487-2000, MIL-I-22110C and has been tested by a certified laboratory in accordance with ASTM D-1748 (Humidity Test) and ASTM D 1735. The product is also RoHS compliant.
