Chevy Spark EV Tops EPA Fuel Economy Guide

The 2014 Chevrolet Spark electric vehicle is the most fuel-efficient vehicle, according to the 2014 Fuel Economy Guide released by the EPA and Energy Department.

The subcompact car achieves miles per gallon equivalent of 119 combined, 128 city and 109 highway. Also earning high marks in the subcompact class, the 2014 Ford Fiesta, which runs on regular gasoline, gets 37 miles per gallon, the combined average for city (32 mpg) and highway (45 mpg).

In other automotive classes, the Smart Fortwo EV and Honda CR-Z are the most fuel efficient two-seaters; the Ford Focus EV and Volkswagen Jetta hybrid are the most fuel efficient compact cars; Ford Fusion Energi plug-in hybrid, Toyota Prius gasoline and Toyota Prius plug-in hybrid are the most fuel efficient midsize cars; and the Chevy Impala eAssist, Audi A8 L Diesel and Hyundai Sonata earn top marks among large cars.

Two, two-wheel-drive Toyota Tacomas, the M-5 speed and A-4 speed, are the most fuel efficient small pickups and the Ram 1500 HFE 2WD, Chevy Silverado C15 and GMC Sierra C15 have the best fuel economy among large pickups.

The guide also provides Top Ten lists with the most efficient advanced technology vehicles as well as the most efficient gasoline and diesel-powered vehicles. Additionally, the guide includes an estimated annual fuel cost for each vehicle.

The online version of the guide allows consumers to enter local gasoline prices and typical driving habits to receive a personalized fuel cost estimate. Also, for the second consecutive year, the guide includes a 1-10 greenhouse gas rating for each model.

Last year, the Scion iQ EV and the Honda Fit EV topped the EPA’s annual list.
