Contract Wins: GE, Novozymes, Axion, IDF International

novoBiotech company Novozymes will supply enzyme technology to the world’s first biomass-to-glycols bio-refinery to be constructed by M&G Chemicals in China. The bio-refinery will have capacity to process 1 million metric tons of biomass per year, about four times the capacity of the biomass conversion facility by Beta Renewables in Crescentino, Italy, the company says.

GE Transportation has received its first order for its 12V250 Marine Diesel Engine from Oceaneering, an oilfield provider of engineered services and products. The engine meets Ecomagination standards and is designed to meet EPA Tier 4i and IMO Tier III emissions standards. It also eliminates the need for a urea-based after-treatment emissions reduction system, providing more valuable cargo space, and reduces emissions by 50 percent, GE says. GE Transportation has also announced that 10 of its Class 70 UK PowerHaul Series Locomotives will join the Colas Rail fleet. The Ecomagination-certified locomotives are GE’s most fuel-efficient and low-emissions diesel-electric freight locomotives.

GE and Carbon Holdings have signed a $500 million agreement to provide technology and equity support to the greenfield naphtha cracker and olefins complex project of Tahrir Petrochemicals in Ain Sokhna, Egypt. The technologies to be provided for the new plant include advanced aero-derivatives gas turbines, steam turbines, generators, water filtration and desalination equipment, turbo machinery compressors and industrial solutions services.

Plastic and plastic composite technologies company Axion International Holdings has started operations of its new subsidiary Axion Recycled Plastics Incorporated. On Nov. 15, Axion purchased a facility previously used by Zanesville, Ohio-based Y City Recycling, which is the basis for the new company.

Consultant ICF International has been awarded a re-compete contract with the EPA’s Office of Research and Development, supporting the National Center for Environmental Assessment’s efforts to conduct human health risk assessments. The contract has a value of about $33 million and a term of one base year and four option years.

Airolux, a joint venture between I.P.S. Innovative Packaging Solutions and Resilux, has supplied its Airopack packaging system to beauty company Elizabeth Arden. Airopack is an environmentally friendly, safe, all-plastic, pressurized dispenser that uses 42 percent less energy and emits 74 percent less CO2 to deliver the new Ceramide Self-Foaming Cleanser formulation, the company says.
