Stop-Start Vehicle Sales

Stop-Start Vehicle Sales to ‘Exceed 55M by 2022’

Stop-Start Vehicle SalesTotal global sales for light duty stop-start vehicles (SSVs) will exceed 55 million by 2022, accounting for 54.3 percent of total vehicle sales, according to Navigant Research.

By 2020, 82.8 percent of vehicles in Western Europe will have the stop-start feature, along with 69.9 percent of vehicles sold in Asia Pacific and 42.6 percent in North America, the Stop-Start Vehicle report says.

The ability of a vehicle to automatically stop its engine when stationary and then fire it up again when it is time to move can save fuel and reduce vehicle emissions in traffic jams. Navigant Research says the latest systems are starting to adopt some of the features that were first developed for full hybrid vehicles. The challenge is to get the most efficiency benefits from the smallest cost increment.

A separate Navigant Research study forecasts the vehicle-to-grid (V2G) market will reach $190.7 million by 2022, Energy Manager Today reports.
