Vehicle Fuel Economy Up Since October

UMTRI Average Fuel Economy RatingThe average fuel-economy value of new light-duty vehicles sold in the US in November was 24.8 mpg, up 0.1 mpg from the October value, according to the University of Michigan Transportation Research Institute.

The monthly report says vehicle fuel economy is up 4.7 mpg or 23 percent since October 2007, the first month of UMTRI monitoring.

Additionally, the University of Michigan Eco-Driving Index (EDI) — an index that estimates the average monthly greenhouse gas emissions generated by an individual US driver — stood at 0.80 in September. This value indicates an improvement of 20 percent since October 2007. The EDI takes into account both the fuel used per distance driven and the amount of driving.

The 2014 Chevrolet Spark electric vehicle is most fuel-efficient vehicle, according to the 2014 Fuel Economy Guide released by the EPA and Energy Department this week.
