The Council for Responsible Sport updated its certification standards to make them applicable to a broader range of sports events. Version 4.1 has been created over the past two years. Over the past six years, more than 70 events have earned certification from the Council. The Council has also unveiled the organization’s new Web site, which features an Instagram gallery dedicated to pictures that show what responsible sport looks like.
Obayashi Corp.’s Technical Research Institute Techno Station in Tokyo was awarded the highest LEED EBOM Platinum rating in Japan and the third-highest score out of 6,200 projects worldwide. The building is used to research, develop and test new sustainable building designs and technologies that will be implemented in Obayashi’s global construction projects. Technologies featured include RFID-activated heating/cooling and lighting systems that each individual employee can program, and a comprehensive building management system to verify it.
The EPA issued a final rule to implement amended standards and practices for conducting “all appropriate inquires” concerning potentially contaminated real estate under the federal Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation and Liability Act. In the process, EPA formally recognized an updated environmental site assessment standard issued by ASTM International.
American Axle & Manufacturing (AAM) World Headquarters in Detroit has earned ISO 50001 certification, the Wall Street Journal reports. This is AAM’s first facility to receive this certification. AAM has implemented sustainable energy management systems, completed a baseline of its energy use, and committed to continual improvement in energy performance.
A new report shows that last month all 74 of China’s major cities failed to meet the nation’s air quality standards. China’s state-run Xinhua News Agency reported new statistics published by the Ministry of Environmental Protection, showing that the amount of PM2.5 and PM10, two key pollutants that are monitored for air quality, increased in December by 55.7 percent and 30.1 percent, respectively, the International Business Times reports.
British Prime Minister David Cameron pledged to tear up 80,000 pages of building guidelines and environmental protections in order to simplify “overlapping and confusing” house building standards, and to encourage more house building by cutting costs for businesses, according to Out-law.com.
