Boulder County to Weigh Sustainability Tax

boulder-colorado-shutterstoBoulder County, Colo., commissioners are considering a sustainability tax that would fund additional EnergySmart energy efficiency programs as well as recycling, local food, transportation and water quality initiatives.

A public hearing on the sustainability tax is scheduled for April 22. County officials are looking for feedback from other government entities, activists and agencies such as recycling nonprofit Eco-Cycle, reported the Daily Camera.

Two years ago, county commissioners decided not to place a sustainability tax on the 2012 ballot. At the time, Boulder City Council members were concerned that such a tax would hurt the city’s chances of passing an extension to its Climate Action Plan tax.
