In Marion, Mass., a solar garden will be installed on 2.4 acres of the town’s capped landfill, reports South Coast Today.  The solar array will be on top of the landfill itself, and if demand is high, other parts of the 50-acre adjacent property will be available, as well.

Marion’s Energy Management Committee will accept bids to develop the project, which will allow residents who can’t have their own solar panels have access to solar power.

The town will lease the property to the developer with the winning bid, who will build and manage the installation. Fifty acres of the landfill were zoned under a solar energy installation overlay district at last fall’s special town meeting, according to the local newspaper, adding that the solar garden will be at no cost to the town.
