Standards & Compliance Briefing: Energy Benchmarking, Low-Voltage DC, Hotels’ ISO 14001

Chicago now recognizes the ASHRAE-Certified Building Energy Assessment Professional as a data verifier credential under the city’s new Energy Benchmarking Ordinance. As a result, BEAP credential holders are eligible to provide professional verification of data for the benchmarking and transparency ordinance, which Chicago adopted last September. Chicago is the only city that requires data to be verified by a licensed professional, ASHRAE says.

The IEEE Standards Association has formed the Indian Low-Voltage DC Forum under the auspices of the IEEE-SA Industry Connections program. The forum will be a platform for engaging with policymakers and regulators, and will also facilitate technology application and demonstration projects to help evolve LVDC standards.

Hotels with ISO 14001 certification achieved higher guest satisfaction scores than those without such certification, according to a study by the Cornell Center for Hospitality Research, reported on HospitalityNet. The study found that 4-star hotels particularly benefited from the certification.

Nesher Israel Cement Enterprises Ltd. became the first organization in Israel to receive an Environmental Product Declaration, AL Monitor reports. The evaluation process, including operations mapping, cost between 100,000 and 150,000 shekels ($28,790 to $43,227), the website says.

Wyndham Worldwide announced that nearly half of its domestic real estate portfolio by square footage now holds LEED certification. Most recently, Wyndham Vacation Ownership received its first-ever gold certification for its headquarters building, Sea Harbor Office Center, in Orlando, Fla. The building uses a heat-reflective, Energy Star-rated cool roof, and 97 percent new Energy Star equipment and appliances.

Evansville Western Railway, an affiliate of CSX, announced the start of operations at the Central Florida Intermodal Logistics Center, which serves as a hub for transportation, logistics and distribution serving Orlando, Tampa and South Florida. Evansville earned LEED Silver certification for the center’s administration buildings. There are solar panels on each building, and LED exterior lighting.

CRS Electronics, a developer and manufacturer of LED lighting products, announced that its Lumenova lamps seized the top three Energy Star positions in the R20, BR30 and BR40 Categories.

The Tidewater Community College and the City of Virginia Beach’s joint use campus learning resource center has been awarded LEED Gold certification. Gilbane was the construction manager on the 120,000 sq ft building, which includes motorized window shades, a daylight harvesting photocell, and floor openings to enhance natural day-lighting. 

National Bank of Canada has been awarded a second LEED Canada-Commercial Interiors Gold certification for the interior design of a branch and offices in Sherbrooke, Quebec. The facility’s layout was designed using the bank’s building standards guide, and the branch features electric vehicle charging stations, Greenguard-certified furniture and a white membrane on the roof.
