Green Fleet Roundup: VW, LNG America,JJ Taylor, ClipperCreek

LNGBeverage distributors JJ Taylor has opened a second compressed natural gas fueling station in Florida at its Fort Myers location. The station was designed by CNG fueling infrastructure firm TruStar Energy.

ClipperCreek has launched its ETL listed utility smart grid connected charging station, the CS-40-SG2. The CS-40-SG2 charging station features ZigBee Smart Energy Protocol 1.1 demand response/load control capabilities and Itron revenue-grade embedded sub-meter for precise power measurement.

LNG America has chosen the American Bureau of Shipping as the classification society for North America’s first LNG bunker barges, currently being designed by Jensen Maritime. ABS will assist LNG America in working with shipbuilders and regulators in developing these first-of-their-kind barges (pictured) that meet or exceed all technical and regulatory requirements.

Volkswagen’s upcoming Passat sedan and station wagon, which are set to be released in July, will be up to 85 kg lighter than its predecessor, helping it to claim expected fuel-efficiency improvements of up to 20 percent. A plug-in hybrid model will also be available, with potential to travel 31 miles on battery power alone, and with a potential maximum range of around 600 miles.

Advanced Disposal has opened a CNG refueling station to serve it Detroit fleet. The station will fuel the 58 new CNG trucks used to service Motor City residents.

The Altoona Bus Research and Testing Center under the Larson Institute and sponsored by the Federal Transit Administration, last week completed the FTA’s “new model bus testing program” of the first 40-foot, all-electric bus. The BYD Electric Bus has completed the Altoona structural integrity testing program in a fast 116 track days.

The Lancaster County Solid Waste Management Authority has opened its $4.8 million CNG fueling project that will see CNG-powered trucks deliver waste to the authority’s waste-to-energy facilities and landfills. The project includes 14 Peterbilt transfer trucks with Cummins-Westport ISX 12L CNG engines, costing around $2.2 million total.
