Logistics Industry Likely to Beat Carbon Goal

The UK logistics industry is on track to meet its target of reducing carbon emissions 8 percent by 2015 against a 2010 baseline a year early, according to the Freight Transport Association’s Logistics Carbon Review 2014.

The Logistics Carbon Reduction Scheme (LCRS), which is managed by the Freight Transport Association (FTA), demonstrates the efforts of industry to reduce carbon and contribute to the UK’s greenhouse gas reduction targets.

The latest report shows that carbon emissions per vehicle kilometer dropped by 3.4 percent between 2011 and 2012. Projecting the reduction in emissions from 2010 also shows that the scheme is on track to meet its carbon reduction target this year.

Additionally during the last twelve months, the work of the LCRS has helped to shape government policy on issues such as opportunities for gas heavy-duty trucks and the upcoming introduction of energy audits for non-SMEs, the report says.
