This article is included in these additional categories:

2degreesTechnology company Pavegen, British Sky Broadcasting, and sustainable packaging company Vegware are among the Winners of the 2degrees Champions Awards, sustainability awards voted on by industry peers.

Pavegen won the Energy & Carbon Management (Long-Term Payback) award for its flooring tile that converts the kinetic energy from people’s footsteps into renewable electricity. When stepped on, the Pavegen surface flexes a near imperceptible 5mm, generating up to 8 watts of power over the duration of the footstep, enough to power local applications such as street lighting, advertising displays and communication networks. It has been installed at sites around the world including the 2013 Paris Marathon and London 2012 Olympics.

The University of Brighton’s “Waste House” won both the Building or Property Project award and the Waste & Resource Management award for proving it is possible to build a house almost entirely from waste products, such as recycled bricks, timber off-cuts destined for skips, ply sheets and even old toothbrushes, video cassettes and DVDs.

Sky took home the External Communications Campaign award for its Rainforest Rescue campaign, which educates customers about climate change and deforestation.

Vegware won the Solution of the Year Award for its range of completely compostable packaging, while Pukka Herbs won the Supply Chain Management award for encouraging its supply chain to adopt the FairWild Standard.

The annual awards, hosted at Wembley Stadium, received a total of 240 entries, a 140 percent increase from last year, and 7,473 votes were cast to decide the final 14 winners.
