K-Cup RecyclingOfficeMax Grand & Toy, an affiliate of global office products provider Office Depot, and TerraCycle Canada today announced the launch of the nation’s first K-Cup Packs retailer recycling pilot program.

K-Cup Packs, the single-serve coffee pods manufactured by Keurig, have become one of OfficeMax Grand & Toy’s most popular coffee products due to their convenience. Until now, however, the coffee capsules have not been recyclable via retailers in Canada. To remedy this coffee pod recycling challenge, OfficeMax Grand & Toy decided to partner with TerraCycle to offer a K-Cup Pack recycling system to their customers.

Associates, suppliers and customers have identified waste and recycling as the company’s most important sustainability issues,” says Serguei Tchertok, sustainability manager, OfficeMax Grand & Toy.

This is a pilot project for customers in Southern Ontario; if the pilot program is successful it will then roll out nationally.

The recycling system will come in three different sizes, small, medium and large, and the cost of the boxes will be $52.99, $96.99 and $136.99, respectively. The price of the box includes the cost of recycling via TerraCycle and the prepaid shipping label.

When the box is full, customers can ship the box directly to TerraCycle for processing.
