VF Corporation, whose brands include The North Face, Timberland and Wrangler, among others, has debuted a chemical management program, Chem-IQ. Developed in collaboration with third-party experts, including the Natural Resources Defense Council, Chem-IQ provides a proactive, cost-effective and scalable method for identifying and eliminating potentially harmful chemicals before they enter the manufacturing process, VF says.
The company, which introduced the chemical management system in its first global sustainability report, published yesterday, says it will expand Chem-IQ globally in 2015.
The report also highlights VF’s sustainable products: VF’s brands produce more than 1,500 eco-friendly styles, which make up 10 percent of total product sales. Also, VF has committed to using sustainable cotton for 3 percent of its total annual cotton sourced by 2015.
