Twenty-two carbon capture and storage projects are under construction or in operation worldwide, up 50 percent since 2011, according to a report by the Global CCS Institute.
Eight major CCS projects are expected go live in a range of industries across the globe by 2016, according to Brad Page, CEO of the Global CCS Institute, who says “this low-carbon technology is reaching the critical mass necessary for widespread deployment.”
In October, SaskPower began full operation of its flagship carbon capture and storage project at the Boundary Dam power plant (pictured) in Saskatchewan, making it the world’s first commercial scale carbon capture and storage facility at a coal-fired power plant.
