India’s Energy and Resources Institute (TERI) and the Association for Development and Research of Sustainable Habitats organized a tour of the Indira Paryavaran Bhavan in New Dehli to promote the need for green building strategies in the country, Eco-Business reports. Completed almost one year ago, the government building is India’s first net-zero energy building.

In addition to being constructed with a variety of green materials, the building incorporates solar, with an installed capacity of 930 kW peak power. It is the largest rooftop solar system among multi-storied buildings in India.

Across India, an increasing number of businesses are turning to solar power to help ensure uninterrupted power.

The building features dual-pane UPVC windows that allow for 75 percent of natural daylight to be used to reduce energy consumption. A chilled beam air-conditioning system also helps to increase energy efficiency.

The building received a provisional five-star GRIHA rating and is fully compliant with requirements of the Energy Conservation Building Code of India (ECBC).
