Covanta has assumed operations of the Pinellas County Resource Recovery Facility located in St. Petersburg, Florida.

In addition to operations, Covanta has also commenced a number of capital projects to improve operations of the waste-to-energy facility.

The Pinellas County Resource Recovery Facility provides sustainable waste management services to residents of Pinellas County by processing about 3,150 tons of solid waste per day into enough renewable energy to power about 40,000 homes. The facility also recovers about 26,000 tons of metal annually for recycling.

As the Martin GmbH Technology licensee for North America, Covanta has a 30-year track record designing, constructing, operating and maintaining waste-to-energy facilities using the Martin GmbH technology employed at the Pinellas facility.

Earlier this year Covanta announced a partnership with nine Western Massachusetts municipalities for bundled sustainable waste management services. Covanta will provide sustainable waste disposal at the Covanta Springfield Energy-from-Waste facility, in addition to other waste services.
