SCS Engineers Consult on Superfund Site Redevelopment

Waste and environmental consulting engineering firm SCS Engineers has been selected by the city of Norwalk, California to provide consulting services for a Phase II Environmental Site Assessment (ESA) of a former landfill, Waste Management World reports.

The closed landfill is a Superfund site.

WMW reports the city is considering developing the property into a transportation/public services annex to provide additional storage facility space for vehicles and equipment.

More than $14 billion will be spent in 2015 to remove metals, VOCs and other contaminants from groundwater, according to Site Remediation World Markets published in October. by the McIlvaine Company. VOCs are present at more than two-thirds of the Superfund, EPA Resource and Recovery Act and Department of Defense sites and at almost half of the Department of Energy sites.
