Breyers to Source 100% Sustainable Vanilla

BreyersBreyers has launched an initiative with the Rainforest Alliance to ensure all Breyers vanilla will come from sustainably sourced and Rainforest Alliance-certified vanilla beans from Madagascar.

The Unilever brand also says it’s the largest packaged US ice cream brand to source only milk and cream from farmers who don’t treat their cows with artificial growth hormones.

The entire Unilever ice cream portfolio — including Fruttare, Good Humor, Klondike, Magnum and Popsicle brands — will follow the Breyers lead and transition to sourcing milk and cream from cows not treated with artificial growth hormones in 2015, making Unilever the largest ice cream manufacturer in the world to make this commitment.

In the company’s other sustainable sourcing efforts, 100 percent of palm oil sourced for Unilever’s European foods business is now (as of the end of 2014) traceable and certified sustainable, according to the company’s sustainable palm oil progress report.
