How the Building Sector Can Tackle Embodied Carbon

The UK Green Building Council has published a guide for building owners and managers to make the built environment more resource efficient.

With support from The Crown Estate, the guide, Tackling embodied carbon in buildings, is intended to address the need for new drivers for action on embodied carbon from within the building industry itself and to help overcome the perception that considering embodied carbon adds cost and complexity to projects, UKGBC says.

It presents the business case for addressing embodied carbon, navigates some of the questions around measurement and data, and draws together useful and accessible further resources.

A UKGBC report published last month found green infrastructure — natural and semi-natural features ranging from street trees and roof gardens, to parks and woodlands — offers several business opportunities including a potential increase in land and property values.
