California Looks to Stormwater Capture, Reuse

A plan to capture and reuse stormwater runoff in Los Angeles County could be a model for the state as it seeks to augment its shrinking water reserves, MSW Management reports.

The revisions to the county’s stormwater discharge permit, approved by the California Water Resources Board, provides a framework for cities to plan and build aquifer recharge systems and other forms of “green infrastructure,” according to the article.

A Verdantix report published earlier this year forecast green infrastructure strategies will gain popularity for water management.

Green infrastructure offers several business opportunities including a potential increase in land and property values, according to a UK Green Building Council report.
