Oracle has launched a service order management solution designed to help utilities increase efficiency, reduce costs and improve customer service. The service order management tool uses a centralized predictive model to improve operational efficiency and execute a streamlined smart meter program.
The company introduced the service Monday at the utility industry’s Edison Electric Institute Annual Convention in New Orleans.
Utilities have the potential to improve operations and customer service with a well-executed smart meter program, the company says. However, utilities are faced with increasingly siloed and complex service order processes. Without the proper technology and best practices, smart meter programs can increase operational costs for utilities. Oracle says its new service helps automate and streamline operations with a centralized, smart integration engine.
The service order management solution, or SOM, aligns with Oracle’s integrated platform to allow common data management, a consistent user experience and a central set of tools, the company says.
In April, Oracle updated its Oracle Utilities Network Management System to help enterprises more easily and effectively integrate distributed energy resources — including rooftop solar, wind turbines and batteries — based on location and condition of use. The company says the system uses real-time data to help utilities and improve grid reliability.
