ADI Energy, a National Grid Project Expeditor, is working with the City of Woonsocket, Rhode Island, on an energy efficiency program, including energy retrofits at the city hall and the library as well as energy efficient ornamental street lighting.

Under the $620,000 project, the city will save over $1.2 million over a 10-year period without any upfront investment. Incentives from both the Rhode Island Office of Energy Resources and National Grid cover all upfront costs. Overall, the project will reduce the city’s electricity usage by 38 percent. ADI continues to review various solar options for the library roof such as solar hot water and solar photovoltaics. Eliminating the use of fuel oil at the library will reduce the city’s need to buy foreign oil and eliminates the possibility of an oil leak into the nearby Blackstone River.

The City of Woonsocket is part of the Rhode Island Public Energy Partnership, which has the goal of reducing energy consumption in 100 municipal and state facilities by 20 percent.
