FedEx to Buy 24M Gallons of Jet Biofuel

FedEx Express will buy about 3 million gallons of renewable jet fuel per year from Red Rock Biofuels through 2024.

The biofuels company says the first delivery is expected in 2017. FedEx joins Southwest Airlines in purchasing Red Rock’s total available volume of jet fuel.

Red Rock’s first refinery, funded in part by a $70 million Title III DPA grant from the US Departments of Agriculture, Energy and Navy, is scheduled to break ground this fall in Lakeview, Oregon, and will convert about 140,000 dry tons of woody biomass into 15 million gallons per year of renewable jet, diesel and naphtha fuels.

Red Rock Biofuels is one of 13 producers of alternative fuels best positioned to compete with cheap oil, according a May report from Lux Research.
