Ford, FCA, DOE Team Up on Dual-Fuel Vehicle Technology

Argone scientistFord and fellow automaker FCA US have partnered with the US Department of Energy’s Argonne National Laboratory to study dual-fuel vehicles.

The research focuses on exploring technical concepts and development of engine technology that simultaneously uses natural gas and traditional gasoline to maximize the best characteristics of both fuels, while reducing oil consumption and increasing engine efficiency.

The project aims to understand potential benefits and demonstrate targeted blending of gasoline and natural gas in an engine that uses half as much gasoline and shows a 10 percent increase in overall efficiency and a 10 percent improvement in power density.

Last year American Power Group partnered with Marine Fuel Conversions to evaluate APG’s dual-fuel system in marine applications including on-board prime and ancillary power as well as port-based stationary power applications.
