In a guest column at Cleveland.com, Q2Power Corp. CEO Christopher Nelson looked at commercial energy use in Ohio. The state ranked seventh in the nation in 2013 in energy use by the industrial sector, according to the U.S. Energy Information Administration. The sector was responsible for 32.5 percent of the state’s entire energy consumption during that year.
Nelson used those numbers as a backdrop to look at ways to save energy and simultaneously save jobs, improve competitiveness and achieve other goals. Nelson supports The Power Efficiency and Resiliency Act — H.R. 2657 — in the House and S. 1516 in the Senate, which would provide tax credits for waste heat to power (WHP) and combined heat and power (CHP) initiatives.
Last month, Energy Manager Today linked to reports that businesses and health, community and environmental groups were asking Ohio lawmakers to reinstate targets for clean coal, wind, solar power and other renewables in the state. Governor Kasich had paused requirements in 2008 due to concerns among Republican legislators.
