No LEDs on Hoan Bridge in Milwaukee

MilwaukeeThe Hoan Bridge in Milwaukee will not be illuminated by LEDs, according to Milwaukee Magazine.

The reconstruction project on the downtown bridge has been completed and a ribbon-cutting ceremony was held last week. The project, according to the story, cost $226 million and was finished under budget.

The story says that a Wisconsin Department of Transportation spokesperson said that no LEDs will be used on the bridge. The story says that in April 2013 the DoT said that LEDs would be used to decorate the bridge’s arches. The cost, which was said to be between $500,000 and $1 million, was said by some to be too much. They were removed, the spokesperson said, as a cost savings measure.

Though the lights didn’t make the cut in Milwaukee, the decorative LED market is growing. Persistence Market Research reports that the sector will grow at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 17.9 percent between 2015 and 2021 to reach $10.75 million by the end of that period.
