Cohasset, MA, has abandoned an LED street light replacement project due to lack of data on the number of lights to be replaced, according to the Patriot Ledger.
The story says that $141,460 is available from the state’s Department of Energy Resources, which has named the town a Green Community. The problem, the town claims, is that National Grid has not provided a count of street lights to be replaced.
A condition of the grant is that the town must inform the DER precisely how the money will be spent. However, a contractor hired by Cohasset last summer was only able to find 449 of 550 on the National Grid map. The town, facing a Jan. 22 deadline, decided to use the grant money for purposes that are better documented.
In December, Forbes said that 90 percent of sports arenas that changed their lighting in 2015 moved to LEDs. Ephesus Lighting told the website that such replacements save 75 percent to 85 percent in energy costs.
