Hilton Cuts Carbon Output 20.9%, Saves $550M

Hilton CSRHilton Worldwide’s environmental management has saved the hotel chain $550 million since 2009, according to the company’s latest sustainability report.

Since implementing its Travel with Purpose CSR strategy, Hilton says it has reduced energy use by 14.5 percent, carbon output by 20.9 percent, waste output by 27.6 percent and water use by 14.1 percent, compared to 2009 levels. It has also partnered with organizations include World Wildlife Fund to help it better protect the environment and preserve natural resources. The collaboration with WWF aims to reduce food waste in the hotel chain’s operations and supply chain.

Hilton is also the first global hospitality company to be certified ISO 50001 for Energy Management, ISO 14001 for Environmental Management and 9001 for Quality Management across its entire hotel portfolio.

Last year, Hilton launched a program called Meet with Purpose to help meeting professionals reduce waste and incorporate sustainability into meetings and events.
