Santa Monica Contracts with 3 Phases for Renewables

3 phases renewables3 Phases Renewables last week said that it has signed a contract with Santa Monica, CA, to provide it with renewable power to all of its municipal operations.

The use of power from the company will start this month, according to the press release. The contract, which meets the city’s Renewable Portfolio Standards (RPS), covers more than 500 direct access-eligible accounts owned by Santa Monica.

The city, which consumes about 26,000 mWh annually, saved about $500,000 through direct access in in 2013. The new contract – which can be renewed for as many as four more years – will increase the savings, according to 3 Phases. The arrangement is expected to reduce emissions by 18,000 metric tons.

California Senate Bill SB 286 would make it easier for businesses to buy renewable energy. If it becomes law, SB 286 will loosen restrictions implemented during the state’s energy crisis in 2000 and 2001.
