LAR online COD analyzerLAR Process Analysers AG has launched an online chemical oxygen demand (COD) analyzer that determines COD in water without using chemicals.

The QuickCODultra uses a robotic, horizontally and vertically moving injection needle to transport the sample to the furnace. This means operators do not need any sample preparation such as filtration.

The QuickCODultra measures of up to six sample streams in one unit using the multi-stream option. The COD analyzer is suitable for the detection of production losses in chemical and food industries as well as for control of wastewater treatment plants, LAR says.

The COD analyzer works with the high temperature combustion method at 1200 degrees C. At this temperature, the complete oxidation of all compounds is guaranteed, the company says.

Because of the high oxidation potential of the 1200 degrees C, no oxidation-promoting catalysts or hazardous chemicals are needed. LAR says this minimizes the ownership costs. Additionally, it means the measurement results are free of chloride interferences. An oxygen detector determines the amount of oxygen needed. The COD determination takes less than two minutes, the company says.
