Siemens Government Technologies has been awarded a $38.6 million contract by the Federal Bureau of Prisons to deploy energy and water conservation platforms at two correctional facilities in eastern Kentucky.

The Facility Executive says that they are being carried out at the Federal Correctional Institution in Ashland and the Federal Medical Center in Lexington, both of which are minimum security facilities. The story says that the installations are expected to save taxpayers $2.5 million annually. The project will be carried out under an Energy Savings Performance Contract (ESPC) that will generate funding through the money saved by the technology. The savings are guaranteed and the project is expected to pay for itself in 20 years, the story says.

The Eastern Oregon Correctional Institution in Pendleton is saving about $33,000 annually via a replacement of more than 3,500 legacy lights with LEDs. The move reduces electric consumption by 518,000 kWh annually.
