The New Visual Media Group has introduced window technology that it claims offers a six-fold increase in energy efficiency.
ElectroPolymeric Display technology is, according to the company, “a tightly wrapped polymer foil that can be hidden inside any standard double-pane window.” In essence, the foil is a shade inside the window that can be lowered and raised by a smart phone app, a remote control or a program that recognizes and reacts to temperature changes. The press release says that the sheet can increase the solar heat gain coefficient (SHGC) to 0.034, or six times better than other approaches and 20 times better than window glass.
Windows are one of the most important structures in determining a building’s energy efficiency and therefore is the subject of much research and development.
