A team at the University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA) is testing a battery that can store renewable energy.

One of the challenges to renewable energy is that it is inconsistent. Solar power, for instance, can’t be produced efficiently at night or during rainstorms. Thus, finding ways to store the energy is a priority. Researchers at UTSA so far have developed an energy storage battery that works with wind as well as solar and can store enough energy to power an average sized house for a day.

The batteries, which in the near future will be tested in structures and possibly a solar farm, can repeatedly be recharged, according to the story at News4SA.

The integration of SolarCity and Tesla is expected to push solar energy storage to provide a significant push to the storage sector.
