Lockheed Martin has installed the GridStar Lithium energy storage system at its Syracuse, NY, facility. The press release says that the 1 MW system also will provide services to New York Independent System Operator, which is the state’s competitive wholesale electricity operator. The system will be operated by ENGIE.
The press release says that the company’s advanced project analytics capabilities were used to design the installation. The system consists of modular, scalable and purpose-built energy storage units containing batteries, local control software and balance-of-system components, the press release says. The system can provide as much as 375 kW of power and 600 kWh of storage.
Duke Energy Renewables and security and aerospace firm Lockheed Martin earlier this year signed a 17-year power purchase agreement (PPA) for solar generated electricity. The PPA will produce 30 MW – about 72,000 mWh – annually. The electricity will be used across Lockheed Martin’s entire domestic business segments, according to the press release.
