Two campuses in the University of Arkansas system are instituting energy saving initiatives.
ArkansasOnline reports that the University of Arkansas Little Rock will install LEDs across the campus, expand the chilled water distribution loop that supports the Windgate Center of Art + Design and upgrade heat and air-conditioning in the Center for Performing Arts. The cost estimate is $2.7 million.
The University of Arkansas Pine Bluff project includes lighting and water upgrades, HVAC improvements and addition of scheduling software, building automation systems and heating and air improvements to the Harrold Complex, Arkansas Online reports. The cost projection is $19.3 million.
Universities and colleges use a lot of energy. They also can save a lot. Rice University in Houston has benefitted to the tune of $399,405 in revenue and savings by participating in voluntary programs that reduce peak electric use.
