The Melink Corp.’s 5.25MW solar farm in Canover, NC has begun operations.
The company says that the farm, which is near Charlotte on land owned by the Rock Barn Country Club & Spa, became operational on November 18. The energy produced by the solar farm will be sold to Duke Energy. The life expectancy of the facility is 35 years, according to the press release.
Rock Barn Properties, which is in the Charlotte area, features two golf course, an equestrian center and 485 residences. Construction on the solar farm began in November, 2015 and was completed in June. The start of operations followed the granting of final regulatory approval.
Solar farms are becoming more common. This summer, the first commercial solar farm in Idaho opened, according to The Idaho Statesman. Idaho Solar 1, which consists of 174,800 solar panels, is south of Boise. It produces 40 MW of electricity daily. The electricity will be used by Idaho Power for 20 years, according to the story. The farm was built by DEPCOM Power, an Arizona-based company that is owned by Entropy Investment Management.
