The San Lorenzo Valley (CA) Unified School District is entering the second phase of a project aimed at increasing efficiency by upgrading lighting, HVAC and other systems.
The second phase of the project is funded at $400,000. Of that, $300,000 is being provided by the California Clean Energy Jobs Act (Proposition 39) and $100,000 by the district’s general fund. It will involve improvements at two elementary schools, a middle school and a high school.
The first phase of the project cost $163,314 and involved work at three schools, two of which also are being upgraded in the second phase. The earlier phase is expected to save more than 58,350 kWh – about $10,000 annually – on the district’s energy bill.
UtilityDive last week reported that Balfour Beatty US has won a $100 million contract to perform extensive work on the Cleburne (TX) High School.
The project involves both renovation and enlargement. The story says that it will include maximization of natural lighting, dimmable lighting, room motion and occupancy sensors, LED lighting and low flow technology in restrooms. A two story science wing, career tech center, two-story classroom wing, library and alternative school will be added.
