KB Home recently announced it has installed more than 500,000 WaterSense labeled fixtures in its homes across the country and has built an industry-record number — more than 14,000 — of WaterSense labeled and Water Smart-certified homes. KB Home estimates that its homes conserve 1.4 billion gallons of water annually.

KB Home is currently collaborating with RESNET, EPA and the Natural Resources Defense Council to develop a national water-efficiency rating system, similar to the HERS national rating system for energy efficiency, that is intended to provide a consistent standard for measuring and comparing homes’ water performance.

Since 2006, the WaterSense program and its partners have helped consumers save more than 2.7 trillion gallons of water. In addition to water savings, WaterSense labeled products and homes have helped reduce the amount of energy needed to heat, pump, and treat water by 367 billion kilowatt hours and save $63.8 billion in water and energy bills.

KB Home also recently announced that, for the eighth year in a row, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has recognized the national homebuilder’s industry-leading efforts to construct water-efficient homes and its additional contributions to the WaterSense program by awarding it the 2018 WaterSense Sustained Excellence Award.

KB Home won a 2017 Project of the Year award from Environmental Leader for the company’s Greenbuild KB Home ProjeKt. The project is a demonstration home created through a collaboration with BUILDER, KB Home, KTGY and Virginia Tech. The goal was a high-performance, sustainable, resiliently built and efficiently operating home. ProjeKt was conceptualized as a cross- industry, multidisciplinary collaboration with partnersin the housing industry that included manufacturers, academics, and other leaders.
