Canadian real estate corporation KRP Properties is expanding its smart building technology program with real-time facility data monitoring provider FacilityConneX. The additional monitoring of two new buildings in Ontario is expected to save energy, increase operational efficiency, and increase visibility into equipment conditions.
FacilityConneX said that the expansion means providing real-time analytics and monitoring for 380,000 square feet across two buildings in Kanata, Ontario, a large suburb of Ottawa. The buildings, 303 Terry Fox Drive and 2500 Solandt, were constructed around 2001. These properties plus the space FacilityConneX already monitors for KRP equals approximately 500,000 square feet — more than 15% of KRP’s property portfolio.
The two companies have been working together for several years now. Since 2016, their partnership has provided KRP more than 35,000 equipment checks per day, tens of thousands of dollars in identified savings, and increased operational efficiency, according to FacilityConneX.
The FacilityConneX software is currently being utilized on KRP’s building at 411 Legget Drive in Kanata, which was built in 2000 and overlooks the Marshes Golf Course. A spokesperson for the software company said that this initial project has already produced the following energy savings:
- 10% electrical savings year over year
- 20% increase of operational efficiency
- 50% increase visibility into equipment faults and conditions
KRP plans to use FacilityConneX’s advanced analytics to monitor the operational efficiency of HVAC, lighting systems, and overall electric energy consumption. Through the platform, KRP staff members say they can ensure preventative maintenance and equipment optimization, creating a more comfortable environment for their tenants while increasing energy and cost savings.
“The FacilityConneX solution has helped us to better understand our equipment and how it’s operating, enabling our team of facility engineers to become more proactive in their approach to maintenance and energy savings,” said Terry Young, vice president of operations at KRP Properties. “With FacilityConneX acting as a 24/7 commissioning agent, we’ve been able to identify energy savings points and optimize equipment performance, making it a win-win for everyone.”
