SunPower and the Army Work on Solar Project in Alabama

Energy Manage ArmyThe U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ Engineering and Support Center in Huntsville, AL, the Army Office of Energy Initiatives and the Army Garrison have been working with SunPower Corp. to finalize details and construct a solar facility on Redstone Arsenal, according to The Redstone Rocket.

The facility will generate about 18,000 MW of renewable energy. Since the award of the contract in December, 2014, the Army and SunPower have worked to finalize the technical and legal details of the project, the story said. The solar array, which will occupy 66 acres, is expected to be operation by December. The arrangement is based upon a 27-year renewable energy services agreement and lease with SunPower.

In January, the Army said that it signed a power purchase agreement (PPA) with Apex Clean Energy that will provide 65 MW of solar and wind energy to Fort Hood in Texas.
